This is officially our last post for 2012, and, looking back, we realize that 2012 was certainly the\u00a0Year of the iPad<\/em>. Over the past 12 months, we have hosted workshops, webinars,\u00a0and our inaugural iPad Summit<\/a>, with the goal of helping educators to transform their classrooms with these devices.<\/p>\n

Where We’ve Been….<\/h2>\n

Last January, \u00a0in his post\u00a0Calculus, MacBeth, and Geometry \u2013 using iPads to revolutionize the classroom<\/a>,\u00a0<\/strong>EdTechTeacher’s Greg Kulowiec asked, \u201cHow can we leverage technology to create an environment where students are able to share, demonstrate their understanding & create something that others can use in the future?\u201d <\/em>to kick off 2012.<\/p>\n

Co-Founder, Justin Reich, then wrote several articles in February on his Education Week blog, EdTechResearcher<\/a>. In light of the explosion of mobile devices, he raised the question:\u00a0Which Facts do we Need?<\/a>…\u00a0What kinds of knowledge do you have to have at your fingertips in order to create new knowledge?<\/em><\/p>\n

By March, Director Tom Daccord examined the Realities of Moving #beyondthetextbook<\/a>, Beth questioned the phrase “Get Out Your Notebook<\/a>“, and Greg Kulowiec documented a Paperless Research Paper with iPads<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In April, as an organization, we asked, and tried to answer, the question\u00a0Why iPad?<\/a><\/em>\u00a0To sum up our discussion, Greg wrote:<\/p>\n

The iPad will not save education. The iPad is neither good or bad, it is and only ever will be an iPad. It doesn\u2019t deserve a\u00a0pedestal\u00a0and will never take the place of fulfilling classroom discussion and human interaction. Yet, there is a place for this device in our schools.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
