{"id":1394,"date":"2013-02-18T11:28:27","date_gmt":"2013-02-18T16:28:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/edtechteacher.org\/blog\/?p=1394"},"modified":"2013-02-18T11:28:27","modified_gmt":"2013-02-18T16:28:27","slug":"all-the-good-apps-fit-on-one-screen-from-justin-on-edtechresearcher","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/edtechteacher.org\/all-the-good-apps-fit-on-one-screen-from-justin-on-edtechresearcher\/","title":{"rendered":"All the Good Apps Fit on One Screen &#8211; From Justin on EdTechResearcher"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"EdTechTeacher\" href=\"https:\/\/edtechteacher.org\" target=\"_blank\">EdTechTeacher<\/a> Co-Founder, Justin Reich, issued a challenge on his <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.edweek.org\/edweek\/edtechresearcher\" target=\"_blank\">EdTechResearcher blog <\/a>last week\u00a0&#8211; to share your iPad home screen with the hashtag <a title=\"#onescreen\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search\/realtime?q=%23onescreen\" target=\"_blank\">#onescreen<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>One of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/edudemic.com\/2012\/09\/5-critical-mistakes-schools-ipads-and-correct-them\/\">core principles of good iPad usage<\/a>\u00a0that my\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/edtechteacher.org\/\">EdTechTeacher<\/a>\u00a0colleagues have developed is the idea that educators should focus on creation apps rather than content apps. Most apps that are designed to teach specific content\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.edweek.org\/edweek\/edtechresearcher\/2012\/12\/breaking_research_most_apps_bad.html\">are terrible<\/a>, so educators shouldn&#8217;t think of iPads as repositories of apps but rather as portable media creation devices. Thus, educators don&#8217;t need to review and master the hundreds of education apps that come out every year; rather, they should consider how a small suite of apps related to annotation, curation, and image, audio, and video production could support diverse student performances of understanding.<\/p>\n<p>In speaking with a group of educators recently, I stumbled upon a corollary of this principle: that all the apps a student or teacher really needs should be able to fit on one screen of your iPad.
