Foreign Films &#8211; Thoughts from Greg on iPad Integration in Foreign Language Classes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I recently visited a French foreign language class and the teacher asked if I had ever hear of Henri the Cat. \u00a0I take a tiny bit of pride in attempting to know everything that is on the internet, but I had never crossed paths with Henri. \u00a0The teacher quickly pulled up Henri and we watched and laughed out loud with the students. \u00a0If you have never seen Henri, I suggest you take a few minutes to watch part one&#8230;<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/0M7ibPk37_U\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Before I left the class, I asked the teacher if she would be interested in having her students create similar style films about our high school. \u00a0With our fresh set of iPads with iMovie installed, I quickly described how we could have students shoot video throughout the school and later edit with English subtitles and French voice-overs. \u00a0She was game for the project, and we started the the following Monday.<br \/>\n<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The pre-iPad Process (2 class periods)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students worked in pairs and determined a theme for their films.<\/li>\n<li>Each group picked 10 scenes for their film and wrote 10 lines.<\/li>\n<li>Each line was translated into French<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>The iPad Process (3 class periods)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students shot footage of each scene using the native video camera application (1 period)<\/li>\n<li>Students edited their footage in iMovie &amp; started inserting subtitles and voice-overs<\/li>\n<li>Students completed the editing, subtitles &amp; voice-overs<\/li>\n<li>Finished videos were exported from the iPads to YouTube<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>One of the finished products:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/MZ0AcOEjbw8\" frameborder=\"0\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Once all videos are exported and published to YouTube, I pulled them all together on a project site that was created using <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wix.com\/\">Wix<\/a>. \u00a0One a side note, Wix just upgraded their platform to include HTML5 templates, this allows the full site to be viewed perfectly on an iPad.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.wix.com\/gkulo4\/henripshs\">Here is our Ode to Henri project site<\/a>, that includes the rest of the group videos.<\/p>\n<p><a style=\"margin-left: 1em;
